Your fishing adventure will be taking place in the historical San Juan Bay in San Juan, Puerto Rico, between “El Morro Castle” and “Isla de Cabra” where the Spaniards protected this important bay from invaders and pirates more than 500 years ago. You will be able to see the old city of San Juan, the only enclosed city in this hemisphere. San Juan Bay was also home of the new millennium Regatta with hundreds of sailing ships that came from all over the world to celebrate the coming of the new millennium back in May 2000.
You will have the opportunity to fish the Puerto Nuevo “Rich Port” river delta, this river spills in to the San Juan Bay where the nutrients feeds the ecosystem and the top predators conglomerate to create a heaven for the light tackle enthusiasts. You will fish on board The Cool Change II (Tarpon Tamer) a 19 ft. Carolina Skiff DLV. Rods and reels will be provided for fishing with live bait and plugs (everything included), fly rods and reels and a selection of flies are also provided for the fly fisherman.
You can also choose to go fishing offshore in the world famous “Blue Marlin alley” one of the few places in the world where you can fish for blue marlin a mile from shore.
Tarpon, snook and Jack crevalle are available all year long. October to June been the best time for Tarpon and snook, you may expect from 10 to 20 strikes per day, releasing 3 to 5 fish in a half day trip. The average Tarpon weighs 20 lbs. with many fish weighing over 50 lbs. Early spring brings out the “big mamas”, which get fattened up for the spawn in summer.
May to September is the best time for Jack crevalle.
Barracudas are plentiful all year.
Permit and African Pompano are not as common but catches are often recorded.
